AAPL: Wednesday, the stock trended up for the day to close at ($65.46) plus (+.90c). Before the close MOM research Admins mentioned that big players on the street said AAPL would blow away EPS. Last night night after the close the Co, reported there explosive Q1 EPS of $0.70 vs consensus $0.49, Q1 revs. $3.49B vs. First Call $3.18B. Q1 Mac shipments of 1.046 Macintosh units vs. consensus 984K, the Co shiped 4.58M iPods. Gross margins 28.5% vs. consensus 26.6%.guided Q2 revs. $2.9B and EPS $0.40, First Call consensus is $2.74B and $0.33. MOM research Admins took notice of some activity in the stock, where the stock popped to the up-side and 1 muscle player started buying-up the stock on high volume. The ran up to test the 45.75 conformation area 3 times then pulled back hard to the $64.00 area before bouncing back $65.26 and then was halted ahead of the Co EPS posting. AAPL resume trading at around 4:50ET last night and gapped to $71.00. The stock then rocked up to $74.90 into the CC 10c from our target. On conference call the Co, guided there Q2 gross margin to 27.25%, Q1 gross margin was 28.5%. During the CC the stock traded in a consolidated trading channel, compared to the halt lift open and the high. After the conference call the stock trended up to end the post market session at $73.30. Let take a technical look at the numbers for today's trading. Above $73.50 with conformation @ $73.80 the stock can make an upside move to $74.25, $74.90, then $75.00, providing the futures are moving to the upside from the pre-market open at 8:00 am ET into the 9:30 market open. If so, other upside numbers are $75.19 being major resistance and an all time high with the next conformation at $75.85 the stock can run to $76.50 then $$$$, $$$$ and top out at $$$$. Look for upgrades this morning pre-market and into the open. A few other stock that will move up in sympathy with APPLs blow away EPS are PLAY, SYNA and SGTL. Keep in mind, Thursday, January 13, 2005, At 8:30 EST, Jobless Claims numbers will be posted. Notes: New jobless claims surged 43,000 in the week ended January 1 to 364,000 after decreasing in two of the past three weeks. Jobless claims are notoriously volatile at this time of year - falling and rising just about every other week. Jobless Claims Consensus Forecast for 1/8/05: 340,000 (-24,000). Range: 325,000 to 375,000. At 8:30 EST, Retail Sales numbers will be posted. Potentially Market Moving Event. Notes: Retail sales inched up 0.1 percent in November after posting much stronger gains in September and October. Excluding the auto group, retail sales increased 0.5 percent in November thanks in part to a spurt at gasoline stations (higher prices!). Also, nonstore retailers and electronics stores both posted healthy gains. Based on the anecdotal evidence, it appears that December sales will be at least moderately healthy. Retail sales Consensus Forecast for Dec 04: 1 percent. Range: 0.7 to 1.8 percent. Retail sales ex autos Consensus Forecast for Dec 04: 0.4 percent. Range: -0.3 to 0.6 percent. At 8:30 EST, Import and Export Prices numbers will be posted. Notes: Import prices rose 0.2 percent in November after surging 1.6 percent in October. Non-oil import prices rose 0.7 percent in November after decreasing in the previous months. Oil import prices plunged in November after surging in October and could drop again in December. Import prices Consensus Forecast for Dec 04: - 0.5 percent. Range: -1.5 to 0.1 percent. Globex futures have been trending to the upside across the board from 1:00 am ET. RMBS: Tuesday, the stock trended down for the day to close at ($21.48) off (-$1.40). Last night the stock traded up after news hit the wire that California Judge Ronald Whyte denied three of the motions and ruled that the fourth was moot as the court had not adopted the RMBS's proposed claim construction. The court has not yet ruled on RMBS's motions for summary judgment. REMEMBER, Hynix first sued RMBS, asking that the court rule that it did not infringe RMBS patents; RMBS subsequently sued Hynix for infringement. Hynix had filed four motions for summary judgment. After-hours activity; MOM research Admins took notice of some activity in the stock, where the stock popped to the up-side and 1 muscle player started buying-up the stock on small shears. The stock then started to trended up where first call players got the news before it hit the First Call news wire and others forcing the stock moved to the upside and popped to $22.25 right after the news post. The stock then drifted slightly back to finished the post market session at $22.08. Let take a technical look at the numbers for today's trading. Above $22.17 with conformation @ $22.29 the stock can make an upside move to $22.55, $22.73, then $22.94, providing the futures are moving to the upside from the pre-market open at 8:00 am ET into the 9:30 market open. If so other upside numbers are $22.94 with the next conformation at $23.11 the stock can run to $$$$ then $$$$. The Co also said that up to $6B of its earnings from non-U.S. subsidiaries may be eligible for repatriation INTC says it is reviewing the situation and has not yet made any formal plans regarding the repatriation. INTC could accrue charges for the taxes in Q4 and future periods depending on when it makes a decision related to the repatriation. Look for upgrades this morning pre-market and into the open. Keep in mind, Wednesday, January 5, 2005 At 10:00EST, TheISM Non-Manufacturing Survey numbers will be posted. Notes: The business activity index from the ISM non-manufacturing survey rose to 61.3 in November from a level of 59.8 in October and was the highest level since July. It isn't unusual to see this index run at a stronger pace than its manufacturing cousin. Business activity index Consensus Forecast for Q3 04: 61, range: 59.9 to 64.5. Globex futures have been trending to the upside across the board from 1:00 am ET.
